FIELD: high-impact polystyrene.

SUBSTANCE: high-impact polystyrene is obtained by bulk prepolymerization of elastomer dissolved in styrene in presence of polymerization initiator and molecular weight adjuster while controlling of polymerization conversion conditions. Polymerization is finished in suspension in presence of polymerization initiator. In range of 19-32 % conversion degree ratio of initial prepolymer viscosity Kix

to the same at 19-23 % conversion degree is adjusted to 50-160; ratio of finish prepolymer viscosity Kfx
to the same at 23-32 % is adjusted to 105-350; and ratio Kix
/Kfx
is 1.35-3.50. As elastomer mixture to be polymerized includes homopolybutadiene or mixture of homopolybutadiene with butadiene-styrene copolymer, containing not less than 70 mass % (preferably 73-78 mass %) of homopolybutadiene.

EFFECT: high-impact polystyrene with crack resistance under stresses and in tensiometrically active media.
