FIELD: sewing machines for simultaneously sewing by closed and edge overhandling stitch.
SUBSTANCE: drive mechanism for link former of sewing machine has upper and lower link formers disposed under needle plate. Respective link forming points of these link formers are oriented in single direction, so link forming points are disposed forward of front side of needle when viewed in sewing direction. Lower link former and upper link former are driven for movement so as to perform motions whose paths are extending in planes substantially parallel to each other. Such construction allows drive mechanism to provide function of closed stitch as well as function of edge overhandling stitch with the use of the same single sewing machine.
EFFECT: increased efficiency and enhanced reliability in operation.
