FIELD: analytical chemistry, in particular cellulose production by sulfate or alkaline processes.

SUBSTANCE: anthraquinone reducing ability is determined on the base of main substance content by titration of sodium dithionite aqueous alkaline solution in chemically neutral gas atmosphere (e.g., nitrogen, argon or helium) with acetone solution of anthraquinone, wherein alkali:sodium dithiomite molar ratio is not less than 6:1. Acetone solution of anthraquinone has concentration nearly solubility limit.

EFFECT: new method for determination of anthraquinone reducing ability in alkaline medium; optimization of cellulose production and catalyst selection processes.
