BOOK IN RIGID BINDING AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC B42D1/06 

FIELD: polygraphy, in particular, manual binding works connected with manufacture of books in rigid elegant covers.

SUBSTANCE: book has notebooks joined into block of book by means of cords. Fly leafs are joined to first and terminating notebooks and attached to cardboard sides disposed at lower and upper surfaces of book block. Cords are passed through slots extending in sides in parallel with their long edge, with number of slots being equal to number of cords, and are glued in untied state, when said cords are in the form of thin filaments, to outer surface of sides before slots, with ends of untied cords being glued to inner surfaces of sides. Spacing-apart member is positioned on spine of book, and binding material is glued unto spacing-apart member and sides. Method involves joining notebooks in conjunction with fly leafs into block of book on cords; cutting cords; applying glue to spine; cutting off said block; attaching cardboard sides to block of book by gluing cords thereto; covering block with binding material by bending and gluing to inner surface of sides and spacing-apart member; gluing fly leafs to covered sides; before gluing cords, providing openings in each side, said openings being made in the from of slots extending in parallel with its long edge, with number of slots being equal to number of cords; passing cords through said slots and gluing untied cord, when it is in the form of thin filaments, to outer surface of sides before slots, with ends of untied cords being glued to inner surface of sides; gluing cord ends while bending toward book block spine or away from book spine.

EFFECT: increased strength of book due to increased area of glue attachment of cords to cardboard sides of binding and reinforced structure in zone arranged adjacent to spine of book block.
