FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of benzoyl chloride. Method involves the chlorination reaction of toluene with sulfuryl chloride (SO2Cl2) at heating in the presence of organic peroxide as an initiating agent. As an organic peroxide methods involves using peroxyacetals taken in the measured amount 0.001-0.005 mole per mole of toluene prepared into a chlorinating device (in situ) from tert.-butyl hydroperoxide and ether by effect with SO2Cl2. The reaction temperature is maintained to be 50-60°C for 0.5 h. As tert.-butyl hydroperoxide and ether tetrahydrofuran or diethyl ether can be used taken in the mole ratio = 1:(5-7) that are dosed to toluene separately or as a solution followed by charging SO2Cl2, or hydroperoxide solution in ether is dosed to a mixture of toluene with sulfuryl chloride. Invention provides the high yield and quality of the end product, improving and simplifying procedure for its isolation.
EFFECT: improved method of synthesis.
