FIELD: mechanical engineering; welding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to welding of metals and it can be used at butt-welding by flashing of hot-rolled steel strips designed for subsequent cold rolling. Method comes to placing ends of strips under electrodes at distance Δ between end faces and welding at preset rates. When welding strips of different sections with width B>b or thickness H>h where B and b are width of wide and narrow strip, respectively, H and h are thickness of thick and thin strip, respectively, distance Δ between end faces is constant. When welding strips of different width B-b≤200mm or different thickness H-h≤1mm, butt-joined ends of strips are displaced in longitudinal direction from under electrodes by (0.5-0.55) h where h is mean thickness of metal welded by said butt-welding machine. Welding is carried out either at rates for thickness H or thickness (H+h):2. At shifting, narrow or thin end is displaced towards wide or thick end.
EFFECT: improved quality of welding, reduced consumption of electrodes and prevention of strip breaking in transportation.
