SUBSTANCE: invention relates to multistage centrifugal pump with primary booster pump, each provided with its own drive motor. Pumping unit contains multistage centrifugal pump with booster pump on suction branch pipe in intake well and delivery branch pipe connected through shutter and check valve with delivery line. Delivery branch pipe of multistage centrifugal pump is connected through additional shutter with drain pipeline lowered into intake well. With booster pump motor started, it sets into rotation multistage centrifugal pump making it operated as turbine, and speeds up its motor. Water flowing through multistage centrifugal pump drains through drain pipeline into intake well.

EFFECT: prevention of inrush currents in windings of pump electric motor, improved reliability of pumping unit as a whole.
