FIELD: fixed constructions; buildings for industrial and public purposes.

SUBSTANCE: structural member includes beam representing a length of unrolled strips of a used tyre tread band comprising a tread side and a back side. The beam is made of at least one package of two fixedly fastened pieces of a used metal-cord reinforced lorry tyre, their tread sides together. The pieces are disposed in longitudinally offset relation to one another at a distance L = (1.0 ÷ 8.0) B, where B is a beam width. According to a second option the beam is made of at least one package of two fixedly fastened pieces, their back sides together. According to a third option the beam is made of at least one package of three fixedly fastened pieces, wherein the outer pieces are fixed with their tread sides together. The method of making the structural member consists in cutting off the sidewalls of a used tyre. The remaining part, which has the form of a closed ring of the tyre tread band comprising tread side and back side, is cut across and unrolled to a strip. The sidewalls are cut off from used lorry tyres reinforced with metal cords. The number of said cords is oddly even if it is multiple at least of a unit. Unrolled strip pieces of tyre tread bands are packed in pairs, their tread sides together, whereby one piece is disposed in longitudinally offset relation to another piece at a distance L = (1.0 ÷ 8.0) В, where B is a beam width. Next all the pieces in package are fixedly fastened. According to the second option the pieces of tyre tread bands are packed in pairs, their back sides together. According to the third option the pieces of tyre tread bands are packed in triples, their back sides together, whereby the outer pieces in each triple are placed with their back side together.

EFFECT: improved capacity of the structural members to resist direct force impacts; improved adaptability to assembly; extended field of application of rubber-cord material recycling.
