FIELD: physics; acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to coding sound signals and subsequent synthesis of acoustical spaces from the coded audio data. In the sound coder characteristic codes are generated for one or more sound channels. A combined characteristic code (for example a combined interchannel correlation code (ICC)) is generated by combining two or more evaluated characteristic codes, and each of the evaluated characteristic codes is evaluated from a group of two or more channels. In the sound coder, E transmitted sound channels are decoded to generate C reproducible sound channels. Received characteristic codes include a combined characteristic code (for example, a combined ICC). One or more transmitted channels separated to create one or more separated channels. One or more reproducible channels are synthesised by applying characteristic codes to one or more separated channels. Two or more received characteristic codes are obtained from the combined characteristic code, and each received characteristic code is used to create two or more synthesised channels.
EFFECT: improved sound coding.
