FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy and specifically to methods of protecting electrodes of electric arc furnaces. The composition for protecting electrodes of electric arc furnaces contains a high-alumina product, ortho-phosphoric acid, chromite-periclase powder and sulphosalicylic acid retardant with the following ratio of components in wt %: high-alumina product containing more than 40% aluminium oxide - 8.0-12.0; chromite-periclase powder - 30.0-36.0; sulphosalicylic acid - 0.2-0.3; ortho-phosphoric acid - the rest.
EFFECT: improved process of depositing the composition, saving electrodes.
