FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: heat insulating composition for making materials based on peat can be used in making slabs and blocks for heat insulating residential and industrial buildings. The composition contains binder in form of lowland peat dispersed in water in amount of 90.0 wt %. The filler used is bead polystyrene expanded with jet steam in amount of 10.0 wt %. The water to solids ratio equals 2.5. The bead polystyrene is in form of granules with a fine pored structure and occupies 80-85% of the volume of the composition. The peat binder strongly binds particles of the filler which has low average density.
EFFECT: obtaining homogeneous construction material characterised by low density, low coefficient of thermal conductivity and improved strength characteristics.
