FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves precipitation of magnetite particles with an alkali from a solution containing iron ions, stabilisation of fine particles of magnetite through addition of a stabiliser which is soluble in aqueous medium in form of its solution in an alcohol and then peptisation of the fine particles in a dispersion medium. The alkali for precipitation of magnetite is added in amount of 0.75-1.0 of the stoichioemetrically required during precipitation of magnetite from a solution of di- and trivalent iron salts.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain magnetic liquid which is stable in a magnetic field gradient and meets requirements for magnetic liquids for use in magneto-gravitational separation with lower expenses on preparation of the said liquid and recycling of the mother solution.
