FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to spumescent vinyl aromatic polymers and to synthesis methods thereof, used in construction industry for heat insulation. The spumescent vinyl aromatic polymers contain a matrix obtained through polymerisation of 50-100 wt % of one or more vinyl aromatic monomers and 0-50 wt % of at least one copolymerising monomer, 1-10 wt % foaming agent calculated relative the polymer in the polymer matrix and 0.01-20 wt % filler which contains electrically conducting soot, calculated relative the polymer. The method for synthesis of spumescent vinyl aromatic polymers involves polymerisation in an aqueous suspension of one or more vinyl aromatic monomers, possibly together with a polymerisable comonomer, in the presence of filler which contains electrically conducting soot, in the presence of a peroxide radical initiator and a foaming agent added during or after polymerisation.
EFFECT: obtaining spumescent vinyl aromatic polymers having good heat insulation properties.
