FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: in the method, oxygen consumption during oxidation of an analysed sample in a stream of gas with oxygen is measured. The weight of the sample is measured before and after heating. The sample is put into a tray which is neutral relative oxygen. The tray is then pushed into a reactor with a positive temperature gradient and temperature of the sample is controlled. Gas is fed into the reactor in form of a binary mixture of oxygen and inert gas or oxygen and nitrogen or in form of air. Content of oxygen in the gas is simultaneously determined after passing over the sample, as well as temperature of the gas at the outlet of the reactor, from which chemical consumption of oxygen is determined depending on temperature and content of organic substances in the sample is determined. The method also includes oxidation of volatile organic compounds by putting a catalyst into the high-temperature part of the reactor, and content of carbon dioxide gas and water vapour is measured at the outlet of the reactor.
