SUBSTANCE: method for transferring a rights object (RO) issued by a server between a transmitting device and a receiving device through the server comprises the following steps performed by the transmitting device: 1. Receiving an initiating message from the server. 2. Verifying the initiating message. 3. Generating a message with a request for moving the RO. 4a. Including an identifier of said RO into the message with a request for moving the OR if it has been verified that the server stores a RO record. 4b. Including one or more rights, including one or more encoded keys, into the message with a request for moving the RO if it has been verified that the server does not store a RO. 5. Sending said message with a request for moving the RO to the server. 6. Receiving from the server a reply message in response to the message with a request for moving the RO. 7. Deleting the OR or altering status information associated with the RO.
