FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to extraction of secondary C11-C15 alcohols from a mixture of secondary C11-C15 alcohols and C11-C15 hydrocarbons obtained during oxidation of paraffins. The method involves azeotropic rectification of a mixture of secondary C11-C15 alcohols and C11-C15 hydrocarbons using a component which forms an azeotrope with C11-C15 hydrocarbons, followed by distillation of the top hydrocarbon product with a component which forms an azeotrope and obtaining purified alcohols in form of a bottom product. The component which forms an azeotrope used is water. Azeotropic rectification is carried out at atmospheric pressure to obtain a distillate of a mixture of heterogeneous azetropes of hydrocarbons and water, and a heterogeneous bottom mixture of water and higher fatty alcohols which is stratified. The top hydrocarbon layer is taken to the oxidation step. The bottom - aqueous layers of the distillate and bottom liquid - is mixed with the initial fraction of secondary C11-C15 alcohols, and the top layer of the bottom mixture - secondary fatty alcohols - is taken for drying. The method simplifies the extraction scheme while reducing power consumption.
EFFECT: obtained alcohols can be used in production of surfactants and plasticisers for polymer materials.
