FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of searching for mineral deposits based on atomic forms of mercury in natural water involves pumping atmospheric air through a water sample. The method also involves collecting air with atomic forms of mercury extracted from water. The atomic forms of mercury are accumulated on a gold sorbent, followed by desorption thereof and determination of content of accumulated mercury. Pumping air for extracting atomic forms of mercury from water is carried out under a floating cap on the water surface.
EFFECT: ensuring minimum time between collection and analysis of a sample with significant increase in accuracy and sensitivity of the method when using conventional mercury photometers, as well as broader capabilities of the method by ensuring continuous measurement of atomic mercury when taking measurements in water bodies.
