FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: strain gauge has a load element mounted on the controlled object, a piezo-optical transducer which converts into an electric signal the value of stress on a photoelastic element which is mounted in a deliberately loaded state and such that the action of the initial force load is in two mutually perpendicular directions, and a signal processing unit. The load element is a hollow cylinder with four longitudinal cuts which do not violate integrity of the cylinder. The photoelastic element of the piezo-optical transducer is mounted in the cylinder such that the optical axis of the piezo-optical transducer coincides with the axis of the cylinder and is perpendicular to the plane of the measured stress. The outer surface can be in form of a Morse cone.
EFFECT: broader functionalities, simple design and high reliability and accuracy of measuring deformation.
