FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: first, vacuum-plasma application is performed in reaction gas environment for lower layer of nitride or carbonitride of titanium and aluminium compound at their component ratio, wt %: titanium 85.0-90.0, aluminium 10.0-15.0; after that, intermediate layer of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, aluminium and molybdenum compound is applied at the following component ratio, wt %: titanium 85.5-90.5, aluminium 6.0-10.0, molybdenum 3.5-4.5; and upper layer of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, aluminium and molybdenum compound is applied at the following component ratio, wt %: titanium 75.5-82.5, aluminium 14.0-20.0 and molybdenum 3.5-4.5. Application of coating layers is performed with three cathodes horizontally located in one plane; the first and the second of the above cathodes are made from titanium and aluminium and located opposite each other, and the third cathode is made from titanium and molybdenum and located between them; at that, lower layer is applied using the first and the second cathodes; intermediate layer is applied using the first and the third cathodes, and upper layer is applied using the second and the third cathodes.

EFFECT: obtaining multi-layered coating, which improves operability of cutting tool.
