FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to aircraft engine building. According to an operating method of AL-31F turbo-jet engine (TJE), prior to each start of the engine made as two-stroke and two-shaft, availability of the engine for operation is checked; start, warm-up and change-over of the engine to working modes specified in regulations and stop of the engine is performed; periodic inspections and maintenance of modules, assemblies and communication systems is performed at regular intervals; at the final stage of the overhaul, when the engine is assembled, it is subject to testing on a bench provided with an inlet aerodynamic device with a remotely controlled extension-type interceptor that crosses an air flow in an adjustable manner and includes a calibrated scale of interceptor positions, which has a fixed critical point separating the engine by 2-5% from changing over to surging, and margins of gas-dynamic stability of the engine compressor are determined.

EFFECT: simplification of a technology and reduction of labour costs and power consumption for a TJE test process at an operation stage at improvement of reliable determination of boundaries of the allowable thrust variation range.
