SUBSTANCE: forest-harvesting machine 110 for trees, suitable for harvesting small trees in the row(s) as a source of biomass, comprises a harvesting head 120 with a chipping drum 121 and a rest interacting with it. The gripping front part 140 of the head 120 has at least one screw and a guiding element, such as a guiding bar or counter rotating screw to hold the tree in a substantially vertical position when its trunk is cut by the base cutter base 150 and after it. The gripping front part 140 of the head 120 has a support plate 152 or a conveyor which interacts with at least one pair of screw 141, 142 and the guiding element, to move the tree to the location over the chipping drum for grasping with at least one pair of pressing rollers over the chipping drum 121 while holding the tree in a substantially vertical position. The said or each pair of pressing rollers feeds the tree down (and back) to the chipping drum, still holding the tree in a substantially vertical position, for processing into biomass such as wood chips.
