MULTILATERAL WELL ORIENTING METHOD AND DEVICE Russian patent published in 2015 - IPC E21B47/24

Abstract RU 2558828 C2

FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention is referred to methods and equipment used in processes related to operation of subsurface wells, in particular to orienting of casing strings or work strings. The inventions suggests an orienting device for inclined wellbore to change fluid pressure per the preset value at the known rate of flow passing through the orienting sub connected to outer casing so that it may be disconnected and having a bushing rotated together with the outer casing, and orienting mechanism connected to the bushing and rotated together with it. At that the orienting mechanism comprises outer shell connected to the bushing and rotated together with it and inner shell rotated together with outer shell. At that orientation of the inner shell in regard to the device is constant and change in pressure occurs when the inner shell turns up to a certain position corresponding to the preset orientation in the well. Besides the orienting mechanism comprises a piston movable in axial direction in regard to inner shell. At that in the first piston position the first flow motion path is set so that it corresponds to undesired position of the device, while in the second piston position the second piston position the second flow motion path is set so that it corresponds to required position and desired orientation of the device thus accompanied by pressure increase. Whereat the device comprises a ball moving freely and placed in a groove made at outer surface of the piston; moreover, in inner shell there is a receiver for the freely-moving ball and the device takes position corresponding to the required orientation in the well when position of the receiver is adjusted against position of the freely-moving ball. Besides the orienting sub is designed so that it may be disconnected from the outer shell when the device is in position corresponding to the required orientation. The invention also claims methods for orienting in a pipe string in the inclined wellbore using the above device.

EFFECT: increased accuracy of borehole tools orienting.
