FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method of producing zinc formate is carried out via direct reaction of a metal with an oxidant and carboxylic acid in the presence of a stimulating additive and an organic liquid phase in a vertical-type bead mill. As the metal oxidant basic copper carbonate in amount of 0.1 mol/kg load is used, which consists of formic acid in amount of 2.8 mol/kg, dimethyl formamide as an organic solvent, a copper-containing oxidant and an ammonium nitrate stimulating additive in amount of 0.12 mol/kg; zinc is added in amount of 40-50% of the weight of the rest of the load; components are fed into the reactor in the following sequence: liquid phase solvent, formic acid, glass beads, copper-containing oxidant, stimulating additive, metal; the process begins at room temperature and is carried out with continuous flow of air through the gas space of the reactor and inhibiting spontaneous temperature rise to 50-60°C through forced cooling until accumulation of 1.35-1.40 mol/kg of the desired salt, after which the process is terminated, the reaction mixture is separated from the glass beads and unreacted metal, left to cool to room temperature and then cooled to 10°C, held at said temperature for 5-10 hours and filtered; the solid phase is recrystallised and the filtrate is analysed and fed to the load for a repeat process. The obtained product accumulates primarily in solid phase which is easily separated by simple filtering. The method is carried out under mild temperature conditions which are maintained by recycled heat. The metal left over from the process can be used in a repeat process.
