FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method is based on preliminary separation of ions in linear radio-frequency trap, which are supplied into it together with profiled supersonic gas stream, creating relatively small additional density of gas near said trap axis. Trap is connected with mass-analyser, for instance, time-of-flight mass-spectrometer with orthogonal ion introduction. Separation of ions, formed in source of electronic ionisation, is carried out on the basis of differences of said ions in appearance energies, in weights, charges, mobility, sections of interaction with metastably-excited particles and resistance to collision-induced dissociation. It is organised by impact, produced on said ions by AC and DC electric fields, created inside trap, including by charges of ions with relatively small m/z, focused near trap axis.
EFFECT: increase of selective isolation of selected ions in comparison with known gas-filled linear radio-frequency traps and their effectively controlled collision-induced dissociation inside one and the same trap.
