FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a sulfuric acid production and can be used for recycling the exhaust gases of sulfur-ferrous metallurgy. Starting gas containing sulfur dioxide SO2 0.5-1.2 vol.% in the heat exchanger is heated to a temperature of 250-300 °C. Next, the reaction mixture is heated simultaneously and injected into several segments 1 with the catalyst. Carry out the process of oxidation of SO2 in non-stationary mode at the same time moving several thermal fronts - reaction zones. Reacted reaction mixture is fed into the gas collection channel 5, where it via a distributor 4 of the reaction mixture fed to several successive segments 2 with the catalyst. Reacted gas is directed to absorption. Switching the supply source of sulfur dioxide from some segments to other segments of the catalyst with a catalyst produced by the inlet temperature reaches 430 °C.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to implement the most effective process for converting SO2 to SO3.
