SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for selective removal of impurities from gaseous emissions. In particular, to selective removal and extraction of sulphur dioxide from gaseous emissions in method of absorption/desorption of sulphur dioxide using buffered water absorbing solution containing sodium malate, to selectively absorb sulphur dioxide gas emissions. Oxidation inhibitors may be used. Sulphur dioxide absorbed is then desorbed to regenerate absorbing solution and produce gas enriched with respect to content of sulphur dioxide. Regeneration of absorbing solution may include built-in sulphur dioxide desorber and heat pump system to ensure high energy efficiency. Other embodiments of present invention relate to a method for simultaneous removal of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides (NO_x) from gaseous emissions and extraction of sulphur dioxide. Present method uses a buffered aqueous absorbing solution, additionally including a metal chelate for absorption of sulphur dioxide and NO_x from gas, and reducing absorbed NO_x with formation of nitrogen. Furthermore, invention provides a method for simultaneously removing sulphur dioxide and NO_.
