FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method and device of operation of the file system to provide reading of catalogue of files. Technical result is achieved by using user space containing applications and system kernel space containing operating system with system call interface for crossing the border between user space and kernel space. Wherein file system is implemented in user space and has a catalogue of files with actually existing files. Method and corresponding system provide virtual file creating for file system operation; provide the difference of virtual file by unique name of actually existing files of catalogue of files and extraction of the mentioned result from the catalogue of files by opening a virtual file and reading the content of a virtual file.
EFFECT: extracting information from the file system with minimal amount of system calls.
