FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing xylene monobromides by oxidation bromination of xylenes. Method is characterized by that the bromine atom donor used is liquid bromine or an aqueous solution of hydrobromic acid, the oxidant used is an alkali metal bromate in an amount sufficient to provide a neutral reaction mixture during the bromination.
EFFECT: proposed method is easily implemented in industrial conditions, enables to obtain monobromoxylenes with high outputs, herewith a minimum amount of wastes is created.
