FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: application of multi-layer coating is performed. First, the lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then, the intermediate layer from the titanium and chromium nitride is applied at the ratio, wt %: titanium 85.75-90.25, chromium 9.75-14.25. Then the top layer of the titanium, chromium and aluminium nitride is applied at the following ratio of components, wt %: titanium 70.5-79.5, chromium 6.5-9.5, aluminium 14.0-20.0. The coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. The first cathode is made composite from titanium and chromium, the second is made from titanium and aluminium alloy and is placed opposite to the first, and the third is made from titanium and is placed between them. The lower layer is applied using the third cathode, the intermediate layer - using the first and the third cathodes, and the top layer - using all three cathodes.
EFFECT: increase of the cutting toolng efficiency.
