SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a composition and its use for colouring/straightening hair, as well as a kit and its use for the preparation of a composition, wherein the composition has pH value of 4 or lower and contains at least one direct dye and glyoxylic acid, and/or a hydrate thereof and/or a salt thereof in a concentration in the range of 1 to 25 wt% based on the total weight of the composition, wherein the glyoxylic acid salt is selected from the group consisting of salts of alkali metal such as sodium or potassium, alkali earth metal salts such as a magnesium salt or a calcium salt, and an ammonium salt. Invention also relates to a method for treating hair by applying said composition to hair, keeping said composition on hair, optionally washing the hair, drying, treating the hair with a straightener, optionally washing and/shampooing and drying the hair.
