SUBSTANCE: coin mechanism for vending machines comprises a receiving device for providing coin access to the coin mechanism; a recognition device for determining the acceptability, type and value of coins; coin storage compartment (3) for selectively accepting and delivering coins that are intended to be returned to the user, wherein coin storage compartment (3) comprises a plurality of tubes (39, 40, 43, 44), arranged in rows (F1, F2) and columns (C1, C2, C3, C4); an outlet device for performing selective discharge of coins from tubes (39, 40, 43, 44); and a lifting device configured to selectively lift any of the tubes (39, 40, 43, 44) when discharging coins for immediate provision of space for the release of each coin without collision with adjacent tubes (39, 40, 43, 44).

EFFECT: improving the capacity of the coin mechanism by increasing the number of tubes in a given space available for the coin mechanism.
