SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR LIMITING FLOW AND/OR PRESSURE COMPENSATION DURING LIMITED FLOW RESPIRATORY THERAPY Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC A61M16/00

Abstract RU 2676433 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical equipment. Pressure support system is configured to deliver breathable gas to a patient’s airway and comprises a pressure generator fluidically coupled to a patient interface, sensors configured to generate signals that transmit information related to the parameters of the flow of breathable gas, and processors configured to receive sensor information and execute computer program modules. Module evaluates the value of the current leak, which is an instantaneous indication of the magnitude of the leak. Control module controls the operation of the pressure generator to generate a flow of breathable gas according to a limited flow mode therapy regime, which dictates a therapeutic level of a first gas parameter inside or near airways of the patient. Compensation module determines the amount of compensation for adjusting the first gas parameter to compensate for the respiratory effort during inhalation to maintain the therapeutic level for the first gas parameter. Control module controls the generation of a pressurised breathable gas stream with a first gas parameter at a level that corresponds to the compensation value. Compensation limit module determines the compensation limit for the compensation value of the first gas parameter as a value uniquely algorithmically related to the current leak value or the value specified by the user. Compensation module sets the compensation limit value as a limit to the amount of compensation, wherein the first gas parameter is flow rate or pressure. Compensation limit module determines the limit compensation value of the flow rate or pressure, which is one or two times the value of the current leak.

EFFECT: ensuring patient comfort in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.
