FIELD: measurement.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement equipment and can be used for measurement of excess length of optical fibre in optical cable module. In method of measuring excess length of optical fibre in module of optical cable, measuring and storing polarization characteristic of backscattering of optical fibre, measured backscattering characteristic of the optical fibre is divided into identical sections, for each k-section on these characteristics determining the estimate of the length of beats of the optical fiber and calculating excessive length of optical fiber in optical cable module on k-th section δlk, wherein excess length of optical fiber in module of optical cable is calculated by formula: (1), where rm is modular tube inner radius; rF - outer radius of optical fiber on protective coating; λ0 is the wavelength at which polarization backscattering characteristics of the optical fiber are measured; LBk is an estimation of the length of beats of the optical fiber on the k-th section.
EFFECT: technical result is expansion of scope of application.
