SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the computer equipment. Method of managing storage resources of a data storage pool through a computing device, comprising steps of: obtaining data which describe areas of faults in a storage hierarchy and available storage resources in a data storage pool; assigning metadata distribution to one or more specific data storage devices in a data storage pool based on the described fault areas; and determining performance characteristics of devices associated with said available storage resources within one or more levels of the storage hierarchy, wherein performance characteristics include health status, information connection type, type of medium, types of use within a data storage pool or whether these devices are currently used to store metadata, wherein said assignment is carried out additionally based on said determined operating characteristics of devices within one or more levels of storage hierarchy.
EFFECT: technical result consists in increasing the maximum number of data storage devices in a data storage pool.
