FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to water treatment and membrane filtration. Method of submersible membranes operation, including stages of water filtration through membranes at flow of 20 l/m2/h or less and back washing of membranes with water containing an oxidant, so as to subject the membrane to a weekly dose of 700 min × mg/l of oxidant, such as chlorine (Cl2), or less, wherein the oxidant is dosed in an amount effective to provide a more porous biofilm or a more porous antifouling layer, substantially without killing or removing the biofilm or fouling layer. Disclosed also is a filtration system.
EFFECT: conversion of the filter with the filling medium into a membrane gravity filter is disclosed.
