FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an ion-exchange membrane comprising a layer S containing a fluorine-containing polymer with a sulphonic acid group; layer C, containing a fluorine-containing polymer with a carboxylic acid group; and plurality of reinforcing materials, located inside layer S and functioning as at least one of reinforcing thread and removed thread; wherein A and B, both of which are defined below, satisfy following formulas (1) and (2): B ≤ 240 mcm (1), 2.0 ≤ B/A ≤ 5.0 (2). At that, when ion-exchange membrane is viewed from upper surface, A is average membrane thickness in cross section, measured in pure water for that region, in which reinforcing materials are not present, and B is average thickness of membrane in cross section, measured in pure water for area in which strands of reinforcing thread overlap with each other, and for that region, in which reinforcing thread is overlapped with removed thread. Disclosed membrane allows reducing electrolysis stress while maintaining high mechanical strength. Invention is also related to electrolysis bath.
EFFECT: disclosed are an ion-exchange membrane and an electrolysis cell.
