FIELD: hydraulic engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydraulic engineering and can be used to shut off water-discharge holes in the body of dams and dams and to control the water level in the reservoir. Water shutter comprises shield (1) installed with possibility of rotation about horizontal axis (2) from working chamber (5) located above axis of rotation. In lower part of shield (1) additional chamber (6) is rigidly fixed. In the closed state of the water-shutter additional chamber (6) is filled with water. Submersible pump (11) is started to operate on outlet pipeline (8) to open water-sliding gate, and water from additional chamber (6) is poured into working chamber (5). When the equilibrium between the torque caused by the water mass in working chamber (5) and the moment of resistance caused by the weight of the remaining water in additional chamber (6) is disturbed, shield (1) turns and falls on gobies (4). Operation of opening of water-shutter is completed. If it is necessary to close the water shutter, submersible pump (11) starts to work on inlet pipeline (7), and water starts flowing from working chamber (5) into additional chamber (6). Equilibrium between torque moment caused by residual water weight in working chamber (5) is disturbed, and moment of resistance caused by water mass in additional chamber (6), shield (1) starts to rotate in reverse direction until it stops on threshold (3). Operation of water shutter closure is completed.
