SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing an alkyl lactate, comprising the steps of carrying out the reaction of by-products formed during the conversion of lactic acid to lactide, or polylactic acid (PLA) with alcohol and an acid catalyst to obtain an alkyl lactate (transesterification reaction stage), neutralizing the obtained alkyl lactate to obtain a neutralized solution with a pH of 6 to 9 (stage of neutralization) and the extraction of alkyl lactate from the neutralized solution (stage of extraction), while the stage of neutralization is carried out using gaseous ammonia.
EFFECT: method is proposed for the efficient production of alkyl lactate with a high yield from by-products formed during the conversion of lactic acid to lactide, or from polylactic acid (PLA).
