FIELD: emission-reducing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to technologies for reducing emissions in gas turbine engines, and more specifically to methods and components of combustion chambers that provide for the use of a captured vortex to reduce NOx emissions in gas turbine engines. Gas turbine engine combustion chamber assembly 100 is presented, which has a structural element that provides captured vortex 66. The captured vortex is formed using ammonia 6 injected into annular cavity 60 located in the wall surrounding combustion chamber 28 of the combustion chamber assembly. The annular cavity, and hence the captured vortex, is located in such a way that when combustion occurs inside the combustion chamber, the position of the annular cavity, and hence the captured vortex, is downstream from the flame front. The emissions resulting from combustion move through the combustion chamber and pass through the annular cavity before leaving the combustion chamber. The captured vortex in the combustion chamber provides an influx of NH2 radicals derived from the ammonia of the captured vortex into the passing emissions and converts the NOx and N2O present in the emissions into non-polluting products, mainly water and nitrogen.
EFFECT: conversion of emissions into non-polluting products.
