SUBSTANCE: aerosol-generating system containing: a consumable element for the aerosol-generating apparatus, wherein the consumable element comprises a storage section intended for storage of the source aerosol-generating material and an information carrier, wherein the information comprises an encrypted first part and a corresponding second part without encryption, and a main part of the aerosol-generating apparatus, containing an electrical circuit for receiving said information from said information carrier; decrypting the first part; determining the consumable element to be authentic if the decrypted first part corresponds to the second part.
EFFECT: creation of an aerosol-generating system containing: a consumable element for the aerosol-generating apparatus.
