SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the woodworking industry. The apparatus for increasing the traction force of the pulley of a band saw machine includes a saw, a driving pulley, pressing elements, saw position sensors, a control unit, and a power source. The pressing elements are made in the form of controlled electromagnets installed around a circumference on the rim of the pulley and providing electromagnetic forces of attraction of the saw blade to the surface of the rim.

EFFECT: increase in the reliability of operation of the cutting unit of the band saw machine and increase in the traction force when transmitting torque to the band saw are provided.
