SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of gas turbine engine building and can be used in automatic control systems of gas turbine engines used as part of gas turbine installations to drive electric generators. The technical problem of the claimed invention is to increase reliability. The expected result is achieved using a method for controlling a gas turbine engine equipped with a power take-off shaft with a generator, which consists in forming a set rotation frequency of the power take-off shaft, measuring the rotation frequency of the power take-off shaft, maintaining a set value of the rotation frequency of the power take-off shaft by changing the fuel consumption supplied to the gas turbine engine, measuring the current power generated by the generator, and forming a signal of the power change rate, at the same time, the filtered value of the power change rate is additionally determined and the fuel consumption supplied to the gas turbine engine is changed in proportion to the filtered value of the power change rate.

EFFECT: protection against the rotation of the rotor of the power turbine to unacceptable values and the destruction of the gas turbine engine when the load of the generator changes.
