FIELD: testing technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and device for determining penetration, the depth of penetration of a working fluid of a standard shape and weight into a sample of the test material. The penetrometer contains a measurement and control unit, a stationary working body mounted on a force sensor mounted on a base having a drive with a displacement sensor for moving the table with the sample in the vertical direction from the starting position to the position of determining the moment of touch or the starting position, and then, after penetration, to the final position. The working fluid is stationary, and the table with the sample moves with the help of a drive for a given time from the starting position vertically upwards to the final position with constant measurement of the force on the working fluid using the force sensor and coordinates with the help the displacement sensor, while controlling the acceleration and speed of the sample movement, which are calculated by formulas.

EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of determining the moment when the working fluid touches the surface of the sample of the tested material, increasing the accuracy and repeatability of measurements of the penetration value.
