SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the petroleum and gas industry and is intended for setting downhole tools lowered on a geophysical cable, tubing, or flexible tubing in the course of various process operations. To implement the method for setting a downhole tool using an explosive setting tool, the downhole tool is engaged with the casing pipe walls; the downhole tool is loaded in the course of a single working cycle in two stages. At the first stage, the downhole tool is loaded due to the explosive combustion of the upper charge pellet placed inside the explosive setting tool, so that the gas pressure value required for impact is reached within 1.5 seconds or faster. At the second stage, the tool is loaded so that the pressure value required for impact is reached due to the layer-by-layer combustion of the lower charge pellet also placed inside the explosive setting tool. The explosive setting tool comprises a cylindrical body divided into two sections by a divider, with a rod installed therein concentrically with sealing elements and a power charge consisting of two pellets. The upper pellet provides explosive combustion and is equipped with a longitudinal axial channel for the installation of an explosive cartridge. The lower pellet provides layer-by-layer combustion. The pellets are interconnected by a heat-resistant bandage tape located on the outer surface of the charge.

EFFECT: higher strength of engagement of the downhole tool with the casing pipe and lower wear of mechanical parts of the setting tool.
