SUBSTANCE: invention relates to devices for making binding covers for books and other printing products. The invention is implemented as follows. Control unit 11 sends a command to start the pressure rollers. The workpiece falls between the two pressure rollers of the first pair of pressure rollers 20 (closest to the place where the workpiece is fed) and moves further, pushed by the first pair of pressure rollers 20. The edge of cover material 18 passes between the pressure rollers without contact with them, due to the gap between the pressure rollers being larger than the thickness of cover material 18. In this case, the gap between the pressure rollers of the first pair of pressure rollers 20 is made smaller than the thickness of sides 17 with cover material 18. Thus, there is a pressing of one of sides 17, lagging 28 and the other of sides 17 to cover material 18. Bending shaft 22 is turned towards support element 26 by free sector 25. When the edge of cover material 18 has passed the first pair of pressure rollers 20, it enters the visibility zone of second sensor 21. Control unit 11 starts the stepper motor that controls the rotation of bending shaft 22. In this case, control unit 11 comprises a computational algorithm or a time interval through which the rotation of bending shaft 22 is started. Bending shaft 22 starts to rotate. The edge of cover material 18 moves towards bending roll 22 and partially rests on support element 26. Bristles 23 of bending shaft 22 pick up the edge of covering material 18 from the side of support element 26. With further advancement of the workpiece by the first pair of pressure rollers 20, bending roller 22 with its bristles 23 lays down and smooths the edge of cover material 18. Bending shaft 22 continues to rotate until free sector 25 turns to support element 26 and stops. Then the workpiece with the bent edge of cover material 18 enters the gap between the pressure rollers of the second pair of pressure rollers 24 and is pressed tightly against each other.
EFFECT: increased productivity of the cover making machine, as well as improved quality, including wear resistance, and the reliability of gluing the binding cover elements.
