FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method for producing poly-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide with a molecular weight of 150,000 to 700,000 g/mol. The method includes oxidative dehydropolycondensation of 2,6-dimethylphenol at excess oxygen pressure in an organic solvent at a temperature of 20-45°C with further extraction, washing and drying of the polymer, and dehydropolycondensation reaction of 2,6-dimethylphenol is carried out at the optimal molar ratio of the reagents 2,6-dimethylphenol, amine, copper salt, iodine-containing compound, equal to 1:(0.06-0.35):(0.005-0.03):(0.0025-0.0035) respectively.
EFFECT: increased recovery of the finished polymer, decreased consumption of a non-recoverable catalytic system, thereby improving efficiency of the production process.
