SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image processing methods. Method of obtaining information on shape and dimensions of three-dimensional object from its two-dimensional image, consisting in the fact that using the matrix photodetector, the initial image of the scene with the object located on it and information on the distance to it are obtained using at least one laser range finder, determining the image of the object on the underlying background image, presenting the obtained segments in the form of a matrix of pixel brightness values, determining the actual size of the part of the picture plane, setting the light source distribution functions in the object plane, determining the discrepancy between the calculated pixel brightness values and their actual values, comparing the obtained calculation results for the columns of the image matrix of the segment with similar results for other segments in accordance with their numbers into the matrix of distance values to the object, object under study on the image is displayed on a computer screen.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining dimensions of a three-dimensional object from one image.
