SUBSTANCE: device for creating a temperature gradient in a workpiece before pressing is equipped with a workpiece pusher and a cooling unit placed on one axis with a chamber induction heater of gradient heating, wherein the chamber induction heater is configured to heat the front part of the workpiece in contact with the matrix, and the cooling unit has nozzles for supplying cooling liquid to the side and end surfaces of the rear part of the workpiece in contact with the ram, wherein cooling unit is arranged on additionally mounted guides to allow its displacement with adjustment of position, while billet pusher has adjustable length of working stroke. Method of creating a temperature gradient in a workpiece from a hard-to-form aluminium alloy before pressing consists in the fact that at first the workpiece is uniformly heated in a methodical inductor to temperature of 0.7-0.76TMP, where TMP is the melting point of the alloy, οC, then the front part of the workpiece in contact with the matrix is heated in the chamber gradient heating inductor to temperature of 0.9-0.98TMP, where TMP is the melting temperature of the alloy, οC, wherein the value of the heating zone in the chamber inductor is provided as 0.33-0.5D3, where D3 is the diameter of the workpiece, mm, and the rear part of the workpiece in contact with the ram is cooled in the cooling unit to temperature of 50-150 °C, wherein the value of the cooling zone is provided as 0.33-0.5D3, where D3 is the diameter of the workpiece, mm, the heating time in the gradient heating inductor of the front part of the workpiece in contact with the matrix is provided coinciding with the cooling time of the rear part of the workpiece in contact with the ram, wherein simultaneously providing heating in a chamber gradient heating inductor of the front part of the workpiece in contact with the matrix, and cooling in the workpiece rear part cooling unit in contact with the ram, and total time spent on transportation of workpiece from gradient heating inductor and cooling unit to container, and time of its pushing into container is provided not exceeding 30 seconds.
EFFECT: increasing the productivity of the process by increasing the pressing speed.
