FIELD: crystal optics. SUBSTANCE: method enables to reduce the optical density to increase the optical transmittance of monocrystals in a long-wave and a short-wave zones of spectral range. The method involves treating monocrystals by a γ-irradiation until the adsorption doze of 180-720 gr is achieved. The doze enables to weld structural defects and reduces their absorption and scattering properties. As a result, the optical density is reduced and the optical transmittance is increased in the long-wave zone of spectral range. For the purpose of extending the spectral range in the direction of the short-wave zone the g-irradiation treatment is followed by an additional ultraviolet light treatment for 2,5-3 hours. A wave length of the ultraviolet light is in the range of 270-300 mm, the intensity-in the range of 4-5 mv/cm square. The optical transmittance of optical elements made of lithium iodate treated by g-irradiation and ultraviolet light is stable for 1,5 years. EFFECT: improved quality of crystals. 2 cl, 2 dwg
