FIELD: chemistry, particularly, textile and light industries. SUBSTANCE: this method for producing polyethers including such steps as overetherifying dimethyl terephthalate by ethyleneglycol in presence of admixture of metal acetates, distilling methanol and excessive ethyleneglycol, polycondensing resultant product in presence of stibium trioxide with heating, and then introducing 0.01 to 0.25 percent by mass of dimethylterephthalate of sulfosalicilic acid into reaction mixture after completion of distillation of methanol and/or partial or complete distillation of ethyleneglycol. EFFECT: disclosed method allows producing polyethers having melting temperature that can be adjusted within range of 60 to 250 C and capable of forming fibrous structure. 1 tbl
